Having had a love affair with Cumbria all her life, Annie finally moved here 20 years ago, setting up a ceramic studio and living the dream!
Her work is predominantly figurative. She likes to explore the dialogue and humour that can be created by grouping two or more subjects together.
Annie makes sculptures with qualities that can only be created with clay. She experiments with textures and surface finish often combining and layering different clays. She likes to investigate the way clay can be stretched and manipulated to give a sense of movement.
She enjoys the challenging and unpredictable behaviour of clay and glaze, and the way you can break rules to create exciting new surfaces. Bases are integral to her sculptures and give her more opportunity to play with colours and form. They will often reflect the Cumbria landscapes from where much of Annie’s inspiration is drawn.
