We welcome you to the Lake Artists Society, founded in 1904 by artist W.G.Collingwood who was also secretary to writer, philosopher and art critic, John Ruskin, of Coniston in Cumbria. Our present elected membership is limited to 45 artists residing in Cumbria; this includes the English Lake District, the Northern Pennines, and the Cumbrian Dales.

We exhibit as a society once a year. The Hall, Grasmere can perhaps be called our spiritual home in Lakeland. We encourage non-members to exhibit their paintings and sculpture with us. Awards are given by local business sponsors and presented to artists of merit. Exhibiting with us can lead to elected membership.

30th November 2021

I am writing this message at the end of an unusual year for everyone and certainly this has been the case for The Lake Artists Society. After an almost continuous run for 75 years of Summer Exhibitions at The Hall, Grasmere, we have just taken down our successful Lake Artists Society 2021 Exhibition held at The Gallery, Rheged, Cumbria

This year sadly we have, at least for the time being, had to say goodbye to FOLAS, the Friends of the Lake Artists Society. I hope all those generous buyers and supporters who were part of this group continue to follow the society on our website and social media. We will also keep you all informed about our 2022 exhibition plans

Whilst the 2021 Covid situation has often made planning difficult, the society and its members came together to create a definitive and outstanding exhibition with works ranging from sculpture and ceramics through to drawing, painting and print. We will continue working and showing together as a group, showcasing the best artwork the North of England has to offer.

Roll on 2022.
