P. L. Hobbs

Elected to the Lake Artists Society in 1982, Phil has served as Council member, Vice President and President. He retired from the position of President in 2012 and was made an honorary life member the same year.

Whether working at home or abroad, the often unseen or unnoticed aspects of the world around him and the interaction between the local people and the landscape have always been important elements in his work and have led to many an interesting encounter and several abiding friendships, many recounted in two of his richly illustrated books, one on Venice and one on the Lake District.

Throughout a long professional career as an artist, Phil has been known predominantly for his work in pure watercolour. Alongside this however, as an extension to his interest in drawing, more recently he has begun to create a series of drypoint etchings.
