Michael Wilson

Michael is a painter working in oils as he feels it's the best medium for him to create an image that expresses his thoughts and feelings.

He loves texture from palette knives and brushwork and as oil is slow drying, gives him the opportunity to chop and change the painting over time until the final image appears that best portrays the original idea. For him it is essential that the painting has some feeling and atmosphere, some presence, that reflects whatever he has experienced or felt in his environment which becomes the the subject of the work.

His inspiration comes from his experiences and where he feels at home. Of significance are the mill towns and lonely moors of Lancashire and West Yorkshire where he was born. Moving to Kendal it comes from the mountains, including fell running, Morecambe Bay and the Cumbrian Coast. Above all inspiration comes from places where he intuitively feels the vastness of nature and it’s moods.
