Mark A. Pearce

Brought up in Cumbria, Mark moved to London to follow a career in graphic design. Returning in 2006 to Ravenglass to live amongst the landscapes that so inspire him, becoming a member of LAS in 2017, Mark is a printmaker and painter, using vibrant colours to reflect what he finds so engaging in the landscape.

“My passion for printmaking comes from the possibility of the complex colour combinations within the texture of a reduction print. Mixing colours is complex because each colour is printed over the last and is affected by it.

It often takes longer to mix the colours than print the run. I cut the blocks using traditional tools, like small gouges, but also use tools from the general toolbox. I work directly from photographs taken whilst out walking, looking for the effects of light and shadow.”
