Kevin Chester
Kevin draws inspiration for his work from many sources and cultures. He paints exclusively in oils and enjoys the flexibility and richness of the oil painting medium.
His work is grounded in observational drawing and in particular, in life drawing, a subject he taught for 10 years. He has a great appreciation for form which inevitably extends beyond the purely physical to an understanding that all things emanate from the One Source. This informs his portraits and figure work in particular and imbues them with a presence and power beyond the surface of the canvas.
His subjects include portraits and figures, spiritual personages, landscapes, seascapes and large allegorical paintings inspired by nature. He also specializes in portraying the Afro-Brazilian Baiana culture of Salvador and several of his portraits of High Lama's and Saints have been recognized worldwide. He has served the society as a council member, exhibition director and President.
