Annie is a Kendal based abstract painter inspired by ‘thin places’ within the landscape - places where there is a spiritual, magical feel. Often there are traces of our ancestors in the landscape and a idea of what has happened there before.
She is interested in archaeology, walking the landscape and stories about the people and places she visits. Annie fills sketchbooks on her travels and then use these to take her back to a place which inspires her.
Annie tries to capture how it ‘feels’ to be in a place, not just the visual representation. The paintings evolve in the studio with layers of paint and marks, she do not plan the final image. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions and weeks of work.
