Rebecca Payn works full-time as a painter and printmaker, making oil paintings and original prints. Her home, studio and workshop are in the Eden Valley hamlet of Blencarn, on the eastern fringes of Cumbria – just below Cross Fell on the Northern Pennines.
“The subject of my work is always personal to me – a painting of a family gathering will be my family, or a townscape will come out of a moment from a memorable holiday. My working process involves daily production of A4 size pastel sketches and drawings – lots and lots of them. Ideas from these pastels are then pursued in small oil studies or larger oil paintings”.
Back in 1985 Rebecca graduated from Middlesex Polytechnic, London, in Jewellery Design. This was immediately followed by a period of postgraduate study in Fine Art and Painting Restoration in Florence and thereafter working as an artist, showing her work regularly in group exhibitions and numerous two-person exhibitions with her husband and fellow Lake Artist, Alan Stones.
